Birds for a Bird program!
"I can not tell you how much I love this scarf. The pattern is beautiful, the print is vibrant, and the fabric is breezy and lightweight. The scarf is large enough in length and width to use as a shawl, but the fabric is thin enough it can be folded multiple ways to be worn as a scarf without being being bulky. But the pattern has a special significance for me as an educator. I do presentations in character as the famous British explorer Isabella Bird, who was the first woman member elected as a Fellow of the Royal British Geographic Society. Her wide-ranging expeditions led to her being consulted by various government officials, including Teddy Roosevelt who was inspired by her recommendations for establishing several US nature preserves and National Parks. In particular, he was interested in her travels in Hawaii and her assessment of rare birds and volcanic landscapes led to both the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park and the adjacent Hakalau Forest National Bird and Wildlife Refuge. So, in telling about Isabella's work while dressed in late Victorian style, I have now added this scarf to my character's costume: I can act the part of Isabella Bird, while wearing a bird scarf, telling about her conservation efforts regarding birds, and with a scarf design that emphasizes the unsung heros of the bird world who are often overlooked, the females birds, just as Isabella was an unsung hero of the exploration world until finally, after decades of hard work, she was finally allowed recognition by the Royal Geographic Society! So I wear it with great delight, for my educational programs as well as for my personal wardrobe. This scarf is a win-win-WIN for me, thank you Svaha!"
