Svaha's Amazing Customer: Carol Bernard

We truly have the most amazing customers ever here at Svaha. We decided that we want to show off some of our favorite customers so the world can see the amazing people that we get the privilege of making awesome clothes for!

Today we are featuring Carol Bernard. She has a PhD from the University of Houston where she focused on queer desire and Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Pretty awesome! Check out our interview with her! 

I like arts and astronomy.  I also really appreciate math.  While none of these are part of my career, I really do enjoy them.

I am an English professor at a community college in San Antonio, TX.  I teach primarily composition I and II as well British literature I and American literature I.  For fun, I love to walk and take yoga.  We have two cats who are adorable, and we love snuggling up with them.  I also love to read.  My favorite book is probably J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

I don't actually remember how I found out about Svaha.  Maybe I discovered it through Facebook, or a friend told me?  I just can't remember.

My favorite Svaha item is a pi shirt.  It's got pink and purple polka dots that all have pi up to a bunch of digits!  I just think it's brilliant!  I love the colors and the fact that it has a bunch of pi digits on it.  It's subtle but fun.  I'm pretty sure they don't make it anymore, which makes me treasure it all the more.

I fell in love with the brand for numerous reasons.  First, the patterns and designs for the clothing are just wonderful.  They are fun and interesting and smart.  Second, I love the basic idea of the company--that women enjoy science and math and technical fields.  As a proud feminist, it makes me happy to see geeky clothes that are comfortable and cute and feminine without being dumbed down.  Also, I LOVE the fact that dresses and skirts and cardigans all have big pockets!  Third, I love the fact that the folks behind Svaha truly are invested in making the world a better place.  

I've probably gotten the most compliments when I've worn my leggings, especially my book leggings.  Students, colleagues, and yoga buddies are all really impressed with the design.  They look at the leggings, laugh, and say that they are perfect for me!  (I own a LOT of books.)
